I earned my B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies K-8 with a concentration in English from Virginia Union University in 1999. Following my undergraduate studies, I began my teaching career in Richmond City Public Schools, where I taught middle school English for ten years. During that time, I pursued my Master's degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction, focusing on Language Arts from the University of Phoenix. Additionally, I obtained my Reading Specialist Endorsement from the University of Virginia, and in 2020, I completed LETRS training.
Throughout my 24 years in education, I have held various roles that have allowed me to teach and support literacy in different capacities. These roles include middle school English teacher, literacy coach, elementary reading specialist and interventionist, Literacy Instructional Specialist in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Literacy Adjunct Professor in the School of Education (Virginia Union University), and English Teacher in the Department of Humanities (Virginia State University). Over the past three years, I served as a Professional Services/Project Manager for McGraw Hill, supporting school districts in Virginia and other locations across the United States.
My passion lies in literacy instruction; I firmly believe in its transformative power to shape outcomes.
